STARFLEET MEETING Marriott Hunt Valley Inn-Hunt Valley, Maryland-Saturday July 11, 2009 Meeting Time: 0900hrs-Salon A R7 Command Staff
§ Fleet Captain Wayne Augustson, Commander, USS Britannic-R7 Flagship/Regional Coordinator § Admiral Robert E. Vosseller, Jr, Commander, USS Challenger/Vice Regional Coordinator § Major General Joseph C. Dorffner, Jr, Commander, USS Edinburgh/Publications Director/Sector 4 Sector Chief/7th Brigade OIC § Fleet Captain Jeffrey Victor, R7 Chief of Staff/Executive Officer & Chief Engineer, USS Challenger Region Seven held its annual fleet meeting at Shore Leave 31 at Marriott Hunt Valley Inn in Hunt Valley, Maryland. The guest list for this annual convention include Ethan Phillips (Star Trek: Voyager), Jason Mamoa (Baywatch, Andromeda) and other celebrity guests from Stargate SG-1, Doctor Who, etc. The fleet meeting was in full attendance at this convention which included the following chapters: *USS Challenger, USS Edinburgh, USS Abraham Lincoln, USS Avenger, USS Accord, USS Blackheart, USS Highlander, USS Buchannan, USS Thor. The meeting began with the traditional Roll Call led by the Vice Regional Coordinator. The USS Buchannan is announced as a new Shakedown Chapter of Region Seven-Tony Lopes from the USS Odin is recognized from Region One-General Scott Akers from Region 5 makes an appearance. Regional chapters have shined in May with the Star Trek movie premiere. The following chapters have been commissioned recently: § USS Hecate, USS Blackheart, USS Pride of Baltimore, the USS Buchannan (New Shakedown Chapter) The USS Richthofen celebrates its 10th anniversary, and the USS Top Gun has a Change in Command, with a new captain, Donna Dimatteo. The senior staff of Region Seven gives the general membership updates for the past month: Admiral Bob Vosseller, Vice Regional Coordinator-The new Trek movie has been a whirlwind. It was a positive for fleet. The R7 Command has been working with various chapters in the region. The Star Trek movie spun off various activities (somerset). Tv appearances were made also. Commodore Jon Lane recently appeared on MSNBC. More activities scheduled in the fall. Captain Keith Shikowitz, Commander, USS Abraham Lincoln-Sector One has been very active. The fundraiser activities and uniform ideas are discussed. A good time was had by all with the new movie. Some chapters made the local newspaper, SHOC is working with new chapters-Still no bids for a 2010 Region 7 Conference Admiral Beryl Washington, Commander, USS Sovereign/R7 Awards OfficerThe following officers are the recipients of these awards listed: § Mothership of the Year-USS Avenger § Shakedown Chapter of the Year-USS Odin § Electronic Newsletter of the Year-USS Niagara § R7 Printed Newsletter of the Year-USS Avenger § Enlisted Member of the Year-Chief Petty Officer Mike Plunkett § Staff Member of the Year-Jeff Victor § Officer of the Year-LCDR Ray Sexton, Jr § Flag Officer of the Year-Laura Victor § Commanding Officer of the Year-RC Wayne (Fleet Captain Wayne Augustson) § Chapter of the Year-USS Sovereign *News letter Judges/Critique ideas are suggested and discussed. The Meritorous Service Award is given to the following member: John Wilson, USS Debraak *2 Service Awards (The Outstanding Service Awards) are given to the following officers: Mark Easterly and George Edwards, both from the Debraak. Seventh Fleet Commendations are awarded to:§ Bob Vosseller § Beryl Washington § Joe Dorffner § Mike Stein § Lamar Barrett § Jeff Victor § Joe Horton § Outstanding Service Award-USS Blackheart (Awarded for Outstanding Service for Books for Troops-Corresponding books are going to Afghanistan. Recognition is given to the USS Sovereign and USS Abraham Lincoln, NX-71809. Lee Warren is promoted to the rank of Captain. Janek Kazimer is also promoted to Captain. General Mark H. Anbinder, Chief Engineer, USS Accord/Former Vice Commander, STARFLEET-He reads a letter from the Promotions Board stating that Emmett Plant is officially promoted to the rank of Fleet Captain. Also announces that the annual Watkins Glen Weekend is in the first weekend in October (20th anniversary of Watkins Glen Weekend) Major General Joseph C. Dorffner, Jr, Officer in Charge, 7th Brigade-The General presents the Valor Awards in the 7th Brigade to the following recipients: § Cross of Valor-Sean Niemeyer § Shield of Valor-James McClure § Legion of Valor-742nd Marine Strike Group, USS Asimov, along with the Streamer Award) § Sword of Valor-Sean Niemeyer Captain Karen Mitchell Carothers and her husband announce the 8th Annual Camping Trip on the last weekend of September 26-27 at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
